Non-carpenters may not know that the picture shows a portion of the soffits just below the roof line of the Library--the dictionary says a soffit is anything just fastened beneath something else, but for a house it is always the part fastened beneath the roof. The Trustees and Library staff have known for a long time that these were deteriorating and have had the project out for bids, which were slow coming in until the economy as a whole began to resemble the soffits on the Manse. We had three bids in hand although had talked to several more carpenters and contractors before getting these three. Once again we found that local carpenter Conrad Fingado had the best proposal--he is the same carpenter who redid the second floor Children's Room and repaired the attic joists.
There are a couple of other exterior projects still under discussion and you may have noticed one minor improvement--there is now a new sign on the front of the building.
