Biggest Little Library in the Mid-Hudson

In the past hundred years the Pleasant Valley Free Library has grown from fewer than 300 books in two rooms to the Living Library of today, which has one of the highest per capita circulations in the Hudson Valley. The Library has accumulated more than 40,000 items--books and periodicals, audio books on cassette and CD, computer CD-ROMS, music CDs, and one of the largest collections of video recordings on DVD in the Mid-Hudson system. Some 500 items circulate each day, for a total of 130,000 per year. The Library provides one of the largest selections of children’s programs in the area. Our summer programming involves more than 300 children. There are more than 60,000 visits to the Library each year by community members using our materials, our programs for children and adults, and our public meeting room. On a per-capita basis, the Pleasant Valley Free Library serves more of the community than any other library in the region.
