Those who have been working with the Pleasant Valley Free Library annual Book Fair for years say they have never seen anything like it. More books have been donated every month all year than anyone can recall. As a result, the basement storage area and a furnace-room storage area never previously used for storing sorted books are both jammed to capacity. There will be some books and other media moved out for the "Warm Your Heart" sale coming February 12-28, but probably not enough to make room for the large numbers of donated books left at the Library nearly every day. Consequently, Barbara Shapley, the new president of the Friends of the Pleasant Valley Library, has sent in the following notice for the blog:
The Pleasant Valley library is running out of space to store donated books. We appreciate the generosity of the people who have given us their unwanted books, but we may have to cut off donations until after the April Book Fair because there is no room left in the Library basement. We are looking for a clean, dry, easily accessible space in Pleasant Valley or Salt Point where we could store books and possible set up a permanent book sale. We are hoping to find someone willing to donate some space to help us out. If you have a suitable space and would be willing to let us use it, please call the library at (845) 635-8460. Thanks!
