December Board Meeting

The Library Board of Trustees held their December meeting earlier tonight (Thursday). One of the highlights was the election of officers for next year. Our new president is Maryelen Brown, back as president after two years of being treasurer (and before those two presidential years, she was also treasurer). Our new treasurer is Kim Brennan. Returning officers include Dave Kruger as vice-president, Daniela Pulice as secretary, and your humble correspondent as deputy treasurer in charge of capital funds.

Some other highlights:
  • Circulation is 21% higher than it was a year ago.
  • Music CDs can only be loaned for a week; fines are $0.25 per day for late returns.
  • At this point we have hopes that Dutchess Country will fund libraries at 87% of last year, although that still depends on overriding the veto of the county supervisor.
  • Our Library will participate in the Battle of the Books, a statewide competition for students from grades 3 to 12; we will need to raise $500 to support our entry.
  • The next fundraiser for building expansion will be dinner at Chili's Restaurant on Route 9 on January 12; just bring identification that you are from the Library and Chili's will contribute a portion of the cost of the meal (details in a later post).
  • Trustee Vincent Beltrani will be leaving the Board at the end of his term this month because of the pressure of business; he remains a friend of the Library.
