Friends of the Pleasant Valley Library Reorgnize for 2009

The Friends of the Pleasant Valley Library met for their 2009 reorganization.  Barbara Shapley, who has been active in the Friends during her many years on the Board of Trustees, was elected President (no officer of the Friends can be a Trustee, so Barbara has left the Library Board). Joe Lukaitis, who continues as the Friends representative to the Building Expansion Fund Raising Committee, was elected Vice-President, replacing Sybil Alderman, who plans to continue as an active Friends member. Suzanne Nolan, who has been the Treasurer for some time, was re-elected to that position. Daniela Pulice, the Library Director, became Secretary for the Friends.

There are exciting plans for the new year.  The first event will be the "Warm Your Heart" sale of nonbook media and romance novels, which will occupy the Reading Room of the Library during the Valentine's Day period, starting February 12 and continuing until February 28.  The annual Book Fair was set for April 24-26.  But the Friends will operate a continuing sale of quality books and materials year-round in the Reading Room.  To facilitate this, they plan to donate to the Library a second large bookcase for the Reading Room, which will contain books for sale.

This year much of the money that the Friends will raise from sales of donated books or in other ways will be committed to upgrading the safety of the Manse.  Projects being contemplated include improving the path at the side of the Manse and making the floor around the desk level.

If you would like to be a member of the Friends, a group whose goal is the improvement of the Pleasant Valley Free Library, you can email me at bryanhbunch@gmail.com and I will see that your information gets to the proper authorities at the Friends. Membership is $5 a year, but the main thing the Friends are seeking are people who want to help with book sales, other events, or ideas for Library improvement.

Bryan -
Thanks for your great report on our Friends meeting. I would like to add that the Friends are asking for ideas on different ways to raise money for the library and are asking people to send us their ideas.
